The 10 Commandments of Biblical Financial Stewardship

The 10 Commandments of Biblical Financial Stewardship

In the classic film The Ten Commandments, Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with God’s holy laws etched in stone. While Scripture doesn’t give 10 commandments for finances, it does provide timeless principles to guide our stewardship. Applying these precepts leads to blessing and freedom.

  1. Thou Shalt Not Spend More Than You Earn (Proverbs 21:5)

Building wealth starts with spending less than we make. Gambling it away is quick but foolish. Hard work and saving grow resources over time.

2.Remember Every Purchase is a Spiritual Decision

God owns it all (Psalm 24:1). We merely manage His resources. So evaluate each spending choice by what most honors the true Owner.

     3. Honor All Debts and Obligations (Psalm 37:21)

The wicked borrow and don’t repay. But the righteous give generously and pay what they owe.

     4. Develop and Follow a Spending Plan (Luke 14:28)

A budget aligns expenses with income and goals. It provides a roadmap so we steward funds wisely.

     5. Take Calculated Risks When Investing (Matthew 25:27)

Jesus commends even minimal investment returns versus burying resources. But pursue growth prudently and prayerfully.

     6. Do Not Worship Money (Matthew 6:24)

Serving both God and money leads to loving one and hating the other. Guard your heart against making money an idol.

     7. Practice Steady Investing Over Speculation (Proverbs 21:5)

Get rich quick schemes promise much yet often deliver little. But steady savings and investing builds stable wealth over time.

     8. Seek Wise Financial Counsel (Proverbs 15:22)

With many godly advisors, plans succeed. Their insights establish prudent strategies.

     9. Remember God Owns It All (1 Chronicles 29:11-12)

Everything belongs to the Lord. We manage resources entrusted to us for a time. Steward faithfully.

    10. Set Long-Term Kingdom Goals (Proverbs 16:9, Habakkuk 2:2-3)

Clearly defined financial goals provide direction and motivation. Put them in writing to run with vision.

May these biblical financial principles guide us into greater stewardship and blessing. When money management aligns with Scripture, it bears fruit for eternity.
